The Connecticut Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Coalition Recognizes 50-Year Achievement

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – March 14, 2019 – The Connecticut Hydrogen Fuel Cell Coalition recognizes FuelCell Energy’s 50th anniversary in the fuel cell industry, making it the oldest continually operating commercial fuel cell company in the world.

FuelCell Energy designs and manufactures fuel cells in Danbury and Torrington, Connecticut. This technology has been deployed worldwide as an environmentally responsible solution for utility-scale and on-site power generation, carbon capture, and hydrogen production for transportation and energy storage.

“Leading the industry with more than 8.7 million megawatt-hours of ultra-clean power produced, our global fleet of SureSource™ power plants, spanning three continents, is a testament to our 50 years of innovation and shaping the future of clean energy around the globe,” said Chip Bottone, Chief Executive Officer, FuelCell Energy, Inc. “As we reflect on our golden anniversary, we continue to work hard to grow our business, expand our market potential, refine our services and evolve to meet the needs of our expanding list of customers.”

“On behalf of CCAT and the Coalition, we are proud of FuelCell Energy’s achievements and look forward to their continued success to meet global power needs for clean energy” said Joel M. Rinebold, director of energy at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc (CCAT). “As one of the leading members of Connecticut’s hydrogen and fuel cell industry, FuelCell Energy’s technology is making its mark on America’s highways, businesses, universities, and public institutions by providing sustainable, affordable, and resilient power.”

Hydrogen and fuel cell technology provides an opportunity for Connecticut and the region to more fully use its renewable energy industry for clean transportation, energy storage, and use at consumer sites.  FuelCell Energy has helped make Connecticut and the region a showcase for renewable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating new clean energy jobs.
