Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology is Named a Stanley Black & Decker Makers Grant Recipient

Global Impact Challenge and MAKER Multipliers will continue to expand Maker and Trade professions in 2023

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 7, 2023 (East Hartford, Connecticut) –

Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) announced the recipients of its second Global Impact Challenge. The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) is honored to have been named a Makers Grant recipient for their efforts to create the MAKER Multipliers movement, building upon the MAKER Multipliers platform. The initiative involves the state’s most passionate makers employed in manufacturing and the skilled trades — including technicians, engineers, assemblers, and machinists.

Initiated in 2021, the Global Impact Challenge grant program will award up to $25 million in grant funding over five years to nonprofits that are supporting trade workforce development initiatives in the construction and manufacturing sectors. With the first applications submitted in 2022, 182 entrants were evaluated based on number of people served, outcomes projected, sustainable impact, depth of programs and diversity, among other considerations. CCAT was selected as one of 91 organizations that will help skill and reskill roughly 210,448 makers throughout 2023.

“Developing and implementing innovative workforce solutions is at the core of CCAT’s mission,” said Ron Angelo, president and CEO of CCAT. “Reskilling and preparing the next generation of professionals for the U.S. industrial base, in partnership with Stanley Black & Decker, will accelerate this critical work.”

“Through continued support from Stanley Black & Decker, CCAT will grow our successful MAKER Multipliers movement to engage the next generation of manufacturing talent in this digital era,” said Lynn Raicik, director of workforce at CCAT. “MAKERS are comprised of residents in our regional communities employed by local manufacturers, and they are critical to our ‘See them, be them’ vision.”

MAKER Multipliers are self-identified or identified by employers (or professional associations) who will agree to showcase their organizations’ talent to help engage our future workforce and bring awareness to career paths in the industry.

“Stanley Black & Decker is immensely proud to support CCAT as they work to skill and reskill the next generation of trade professionals,” said Stanley Black & Decker’s corporate responsibility officer, Deb Geyer. “Currently in the U.S., there are an estimated 650,000 open construction jobs and 10 million unfilled manufacturing jobs globally. Our purpose is to support ‘Those Who Make the World,’ and being able to fund educational programs and non-profits that are revitalizing trade careers directly connects to our core mission. Thanks to this year’s Makers Grant Recipients, together we will be one step closer to closing the trade skills gap.”
