Celebrating Excellence: Dr. Jackie Garofano and Nasir Mannan Inducted into UConn’s Academy of Distinguished Engineers

We’re thrilled to share that two outstanding members of the CCAT team—Chief Technology Officer Dr. Jackie Garofano and Principal Engineer Nasir Mannan—have been inducted into the University of Connecticut’s prestigious Academy of Distinguished Engineers. This elite honor is awarded to just ten alumni each year who exemplify excellence in engineering and demonstrate meaningful contributions to the profession, future generations, and society as a whole.

Dr. Garofano and Mr. Mannan were formally recognized during the 2025 induction ceremony held at UConn’s Storrs campus, where Dean JC Zhao commended the class for its extraordinary achievements in research, innovation, and leadership.

Dr. Garofano, who earned both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UConn, joined CCAT’s executive team in 2021 following nearly a decade at RTX. There, she progressed from research scientist to program manager of a global engineering leadership initiative. At CCAT, she continues to drive innovation and workforce development across Connecticut’s manufacturing ecosystem. Her impact extends far beyond the lab—through mentorship, student engagement, and the creation of development programs, Dr. Garofano is helping shape the next generation of engineers and technology leaders.

Mr. Mannan, a 2007 graduate of UConn’s Mechanical Engineering program, leads CCAT’s Advanced Design Automation and Metrology Lab. His work supports the U.S. supply chain and strengthens the defense industrial base by integrating Industry 4.0 technologies and pioneering smarter, more efficient solutions to complex engineering challenges.

“I’m grateful for this recognition and excited about the future,” said Mannan. “We have an incredible opportunity as engineers to improve the quality of life on earth for all beings through the technology we create and help implement.”

Ron Angelo, President & CEO of CCAT, added:  “This is a proud moment for our organization. Jackie and Nasir's recognition by UConn is a testament to their tireless dedication to excellence, education, and innovation.”
