The formal opening Friday of the $60 million refurbished United Technologies Corp. research center handed Gov. Dannel P. Malloy a much-needed opportunity to celebrate some good news for Connecticut’s slumping business climate.
The governor and Greg Hayes, UTC’s chief executive officer, led a ceremony formally opening the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, which has been expanded and renovated in the past two years. Each cited the other’s leadership that made it possible for UTC to increase its investment in the state.
Hayes provided a welcome boost to Malloy, who is grappling with chronic budget shortfalls, cuts in state services, a slow-growth economy and news Wednesday that Aetna Inc. is shopping in other states for a new site for its Hartford headquarters.
