CCAT’s Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) has finished it’s nearly $5 million expansion which includes the installation of a new, state-of-the-art, Zimmermann machining center that will help manufacturers produce components using composite materials and aerospace alloys.
The state Manufacturing Innovation Fund is financing the $2.9 million cost of the machine and a program to help companies gain access to new technologies and improve their proficiency in composite material manufacturing.
AMC Director Don Balducci said, “The machine can rotate around an object being fabricated and moves at 18,000 RPMs, on the high end of machining speeds. It will be particularly helpful to manufacturers that contribute engine parts for the U.S. military’s F-35 fighter jet.”
