WNPR’s David Desroches stopped by Simpson-Waverly School in Hartford, Conn. on Dec. 1 to talk to the students participating in Straw Skyscraper, a Young Manufacturer’s Academy activity led by CCAT’s Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. (CT DIDI) program, funded by CT DECD’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund and a Hartford Foundation for Public Giving grant. Straw Skyscraper is designed to improve student manufacturing-related STEM content knowledge and skills by understanding the strengths of different shapes, the forces that can act on a structure, the basics of structural design, and overall the basic understanding of the language of engineering design.
