Office of Energy Efficient Businesses help business owners cut energy costs

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — October 10, 2017 — The Connecticut Office of Energy Efficient Businesses (OEEB), in coordination with New London Main Street and Eversource, is expanding its services to businesses in the City of New London beginning October 12. OEEB’s energy outreach specialists will meet with businesses to identify ways to reduce energy consumption and increase savings from energy efficiency work.

“We are approaching small to medium-sized businesses and manufacturing facilities to provide guidance and information that support intelligent business decisions,” said Joel M. Rinebold, director of energy at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT).

The OEEB, administered by CCAT, is coordinating with Eversource to offer free, objective assistance to in-state businesses to reduce energy consumption, and increase energy reliability and efficiency. The OEEB outreach specialists can identify opportunities for placement of high value energy efficiency and conservation measures; identify energy cost savings through energy bench marking using the US EPA Portfolio Manager; and provide information for new construction, energy incentives, and zero percent financing for small businesses.

The OEEB is also coordinating these services with New London Main Street (NLMS), an organization that works to enrich the cultural fabric, preserve and enhance historic streetscapes and support and expand the economic base of the city’s center. NLMS has a “Light up New London!” initiative to create a positive perception of downtown New London by working with property and store owners to install LED lights inside storefront windows.

“Businesses will use energy efficient lighting in their storefronts to showcase vitality and warmth during the Light up New London campaign”, stated Kristin Havrilla Clarke, executive director of NLMS. “We want to ensure that businesses are aware of the all the resources the state offers to reduce energy consumption and, ultimately, save money”.

Business owners can contact OEEB to schedule an assessment at 860-291-8832 or at oeeb@ccat.us.
