Introduction to Basic Metrology Using the Telescoping Ballbar (3-Day Paid Training Class)

April 12, 2022 @ 8:00 am - April 14, 2022 @ 4:00 pm

Join CCAT and Renishaw for this comprehensive 3-day in-person paid ballbar training. This training involves a careful examination of the use of a telescoping ballbar as a tool for evaluating displacement errors on machines or devices which work within three dimensional rectangular coordinate systems. Emphasis is on development of basic metrology skills, visualization, and solutions for spatial geometric problems using telescoping ballbars on linear motion CNC devices. This is an introductory course designed for individuals looking to develop skills to record error events and interpret information collected.  Although this course is an introductory, it meets the needs of many students with other interests as a refresher course for improving telescoping ballbar analysis skills, a course for students interested in pursuing, selling and supporting metrology measurement services or a course that simply satisfies a student’s curiosity in measurement using telescoping ballbars.

Learning Objectives:
Familiarize students with basic concepts of metrology
Familiarize students with errors found in rectangular coordinate systems
Provide students with opportunities to develop an understanding of linear motion carriage errors
Provide students with ability to setup telescoping ballbar hardware
Provide students with the ability to differentiate between machine and test errors on analysis plots
Explain software interface for efficient capture and analysis
Provide students with the ability to evaluate and quantify telescoping ballbar polar plot test data

Day 1, Tue. April 12, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Types of Error
History of units

Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation by CCAT and Renishaw
CCAT and Renishaw require a minimum number of registrants to hold a Workshop.  If the minimum number attendees do not register for a scheduled Workshop, CCAT and Renishaw may cancel a Workshop with five (5) business days’ notice to registrants.   Registrants will have an option to receive credit and register for future Workshop or to request full reimbursement.

Cancellation by Registrant with ten (10) or more business days advanced notice
– If a registrant cancels their Workshop registration with ten (10) or more business days advance notice, the registrant may take a credit and reschedule their Workshop within one-hundred and eighty (180) days from the original Workshop date.

– If a registrant’s cancellation results in the Workshop’s overall cancellation, no refund will be offered or provided to the cancelling registrant.
– If the Workshop proceeds, despite a registrant’s cancellation, such registrant may be eligible for an 85% refund.

Cancellation by Registrant with ten (10) or less business days advanced notice
-If a registrant cancels their Workshop registration with ten (10) of less business days advance notice, the registrant will only be eligible for a credit or refund if the Workshop proceeds.
