The technology to 3D print parts using lightweight continuous carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass filament was introduced by MarkForged in 2014. Organizations such as NASA, SpaceX, Yale, and Lockheed Martin are using this patented continuous fiber filament printing (CFF) process to manufacture end-use parts that are stronger and lighter than aluminum. In 2016 the strength of CFF parts was further increased by the introduction of Onyx (Nylon filled with chopped carbon fiber) and HST Fiberglass (140 degree Centigrade HDT) materials. …
