UTC/RTC Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering: Fusion of Physics-based Modeling and AI for the Predictive Maintenance of Precision Machining

Presented by Dr. George M. Bollas Director, UTC Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering UTC Chair Professor in Advanced Systems Engineering Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering University of Connecticut

The particular focus of this presentation is the fusion of what engineers know and understand about a manufacturing process and what IoT technology has enabled in modern cyber-physical manufacturing systems. The presentation will communicate the collaborative efforts of the University of Connecticut, the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Raytheon Technologies Research Center, and DePuy Synthes of Johnson and Johnson on improving the efficiency of precision machining with a digital twin for system optimization, diagnostics, prognostics and supervisory control. It will be presented by Dr. George M. Bollas. He is the UTC Endowed Chair Professor with the Chemical and Biomolecular Department and the Director of the United Technologies Corporation Institute of Advanced Systems Engineering at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Bollas received B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
