For years, self-appointed experts have been telling us that manufacturing is dead. The problem is the corpse won’t stay buried.
Yes, this country has far fewer manufacturing jobs than in the past. “Outsourcing,“ which sees U.S. manufacturers export jobs offshore to tap into cheap labor overseas, has played a role in that decline. So, too, has the spread of technology, which has enabled many manufacturers to produce more products with fewer workers.
