Exploring careers can be fun when you combine hands-on experiences with enthusiastic role models.
Fifteen local Girl Scout Service Unit members and their moms from the Hutchinson area recently spent an afternoon at Ridgewater College in Hutchinson making high-tech snowman ornaments using computer-aided drafting software and computer numerical control machines.
Ridgewater instructors Stacey Nass and Tammy Jablonski introduced the girls, age 9 to 17, to Solidworks design software and Mastercam machining. The Scouts used the computer design program, watched a 3D printer create mockups of their ornaments, and then turned plans into reality through CNC machine programming.
