Clean Energy Technology Innovation To Be Featured

at SBIR & Global Trade Summit

CCAT to lead session on hydrogen and fuel cells opportunities

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – Clean energy business growth and research opportunities will be explored at the SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) & Global Trade Summit on July 24-26 at the Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, Conn.  The Summit, which is expected to attract nearly 500 attendees from small, innovative start-ups to major international corporations, will focus on technology innovation and global commerce.

Joel Rinebold, Director of Energy Initiatives at the  Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT), will moderate two Innovation Track sessions on Thursday, July 26:  the “Opportunities for the Clean Energy Sector: Hydrogen and Fuel Cells”; and “Cross Border Technology Collaborations – Canada and US Fuel Cell Technology.”

During the clean energy opportunities session, representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy will discuss areas for potential research with a focus on hydrogen and fuel cell technology.

Workshop attendees will learn about the benefits of collaboration in the cross border breakout as they hear the story of how FuelCell Energy, a Connecticut company, Quadrogen, a technology company from British Columbia, and Dr. David Ghosh at the National Research Council of Canada worked together to fund clean energy innovations.

“The Summit is the premier event for clean energy companies to learn about federal funding programs, how to benefit from collaborations with global companies, and how to export to US-friendly countries,” commented Rinebold.  “Companies will also have the chance to discuss their innovative technologies, products and services in one-on-one meetings with global corporations, the U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal agencies.”

Federal agencies that support the SBIR Program will be represented at the Summit, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Navy and National Institutes of Health.

Corporate giants such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, BASF, Northrop Grumman, Honda, Raytheon, Merck and Sherwin Williams are expected to share their insights about technology innovation, what they are looking for in terms of future products and services, and what it takes to compete in today’s global market.
