East Hartford:  The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has provided more than $18M in funding to the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) to provide expertise in assisting the federal government make efficient use of domestic energy sources.  This effort is sponsored by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, and the Defense Logistics Agency, Ft. Belvoir, VA.

As part of the federal government’s efforts to develop greener fuels, the DoD is investigating the potential to increase its utilization of alternative energy sources to produce liquid fuel.  The significant concern in using our vast supply of domestic resources is the large amount of CO2  which is produced in the transformation process.  The environmental impact of this production dictates that the ability to capture and sequester CO2  be further investigated.  CCAT’s three-year contract has been awarded to assess research efforts and implement demonstration projects to mitigate the CO2 emission issue.  CCAT will perform assessments of existing and developing technologies from some of our country’s most promising researchers and technologists, and will down-select promising technologies to be implemented as pilot feasibility projects on-site at key DoD facilities.

“The need to explore alternative energy sources is not just for the commercial sector; the government must also move forward in this arena”, stated Elliot Ginsberg, President and CEO of CCAT.   “This new effort will provide valuable information for concrete applications enabling the federal government to remain at the forefront of alternative energy solutions.”
