The CCAT-NCAL is a training partner of Immersive Engineering and their online virtual CNC machine/programmer training system. This learning productivity tool offers student’s unlimited access to Haas and GE Fanuc CNC machinery in the Virtual Training Environment (VTE). The system enables students to develop greater confidence and proficiency prior to performing actual procedures and operating equipment.
CCAT-NCAL has partnered with the Connecticut Technical High School System to provide the VTE to Manufacturing Technology students. With the system, students can
- Learn to program virtual mills and lathes
- Gain experience with industrial control panels
- Edit, load, run and save NC programs
- Set tool and work offsets
- Operate touch probes
- Experiment with stock material removal
- Apply canned cycles
- Respond to control alarms
All this is done in the safety of a virtual environment.

In the first month of deployment, Windham Technical High School in Willimantic, CT has been able to use the system as a supplement in their Arbor Press design project. After generating NC Code for the machining processes without the use of CAM software, the students were able to validate the syntax of the code before testing on physical machines. By doing so, students were also able to gain valuable experience using the Haas control panel and test different scenarios, all while keeping the actual Haas machines free for others to utilize.
Major benefits include:
- Cost-effective and safe, 24/7 access
- Ability to track and measure students progress
- Reduce risk to people and equipment
- Increase control panel training contact-time
- Learn with virtual controls and 3D machines
