Global Warming: A Historical Perspective
Global Warming has been going on for thousands of years. It’s a natural process that started when the ice age ended millenniums ago. However, as humans harnessed the power of fossil fuels, we started releasing fluorocarbons and other greenhouse gases into the air, which started eating away at the ozone layer. The ozone, a layer in the Earth’s outer atmosphere, consists purely of O3, which is a special type of oxygen that protects the earth from many of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. As the ozone layer slowly dissolves, more and more UV rays penetrate the Earth’s atmosphere, heating up the Earth and raising its normal climate temperatures. Global Warming was something started by nature, and enhanced by humans. If nothing is soon done to combat this situation, then it could possibly be too late. Once the damage to the Earth and the ozone layer is done, nothing can be done to repair it. Our only option is to stop the major problem before it really happens.

As we have seen in our collaboration with the students in Jinan, China, we have realized that they have found the same facts and data that we have here in the US. China is on the complete other side of the world, which just proves my point that global warming is a global thing, seeing as you can’t get any further away from the United States than China. On a lighter note, global warming can be stopped through simple methods, such as using less petroleum fossil fuels, car-pooling, and voting against major fuel-burners such as coal-powered power plants. Although it can be stopped, it cannot be stopped without volunteers like you.
