Effects of Global Warming

If nothing is done to stop global warming, then the earth could change for the worse. For example, in only 1,000 years, if the temperature keeps rising at the rate it is now, then all of Greenland will melt, causing the ocean to rise approximately 7.2 meters, or about 23 feet. If the ocean levels rise this high, the state of Florida will be almost completely submerged in water. Also, since the polar icecaps are slowly melting, the number of polar bears declines by about 1% each year. That statistic alone means that polar bears could become extinct in 100 years. This means in your grandkids or even your kids generation. Also, with the rising sea levels, flash floods would become frequent all over Europe, causing death and destruction. Although many people think that a warmer climate is a good thing, with less harsh winters and more comfortable days, those people are wrong. Nothing good has, is, or will come from global warming. That is why it needs to be stopped. The United States is slowly starting to acknowledge this fact, and is starting to take action. The fact is however, that it’s called GLOBAL WARMING for a reason. This is a global thing, not just caused by the US, but by all industrialized countries worldwide. Therefore, all countries should pitch in to try to help. (Tom, Columbia, CT)
