This thoughtfully designed program is geared to help pave the way for you to make a successful transition into a first supervisory or team leader role. It provides the skills necessary to lead in a highly effective manner by focusing on behaviors that work.  Interactive, useful and highly practical this program is the one you need to get off to a strong start.

Suggested Audience: This program will provide the most benefit for you if you are in a first supervisory/ team leader role or are aspiring to such a position.

Format:  Six modules running from 9:00am-12:00. Each skill building unit is spaced approximately one week apart for six weeks.

 

Outline:

Module 1: Principles for a Collaborative Workplace (CW)

  • Focusing on the importance of collaboration and shared values to help create a high performance organization.
  • Using CW Principles to put productive values into place.
    • Focusing on the situation, issue, or behavior and not the person.
    • Maintaining the self-confidence and self-esteem of others.
    • Maintaining constructive relationships.
    • Taking the initiative to make things better.
    • Leading by example

Module 2: Work Priorities and Verifiable Goals

  • Rating and ranking work responsibilities based on their contributions to effectiveness
  • Focusing on identifying high-priority responsibilities with intended, verifiable outcomes

Module 3:  Proactive Listening

  • Focusing on the encouragement of communication within the work unit
  • Improving active solicitation of ideas, identification of issues/problems that impact work units.

Module 4: Influencing for Win/Win

  • Identifying the motivating factors in the work place.
  • Learning positive, persuasive responses to negativity

Module 5: Adapting to Change

  • Learning techniques and actions which facilitate adaptation to change.
  • Developing the ability to support, guide, and encourage others’ efforts to adapt to change

Module 6: Managing Conflict

  • Learning  to use the energy of conflict to produce positive results that improve working relationships
  • Understanding different work styles to improve the ability to develop more collaborative solutions

 

Your instructor:

Guiding you through the program will be Dr. Gary Rosentreter. Gary has extensive experience in organizational development and human resources.  He also has a significant background in the quality arena, having been responsible for several quality systems and process improvement implementations. Gary also spent several years serving as the Executive Director of The Connecticut Quality Council.  His primary interest is in helping individuals and organizations use intervention tools that focus on process improvement and the human side of change management to enhance their business results.
Gary earned his Doctorate in education, with a focus on adult education. He has more than 27 years experience in the area of Organizational Development and Training.  He has been responsible for the design and implementation of training and consulting programs to improve operations, enhance employee performance, increase retention, and reduce operating costs.

About CQC:  For over 19 years, the Connecticut Quality Council has been providing high value workshops aimed at instilling the philosophies and practices of Continuous Improvement and Total Quality Management. We are a non-profit organization, with member organizations sharing experiences, expertise, and resources.
CQC was founded in 1990 through the efforts of 27 diversified organizations. This group included Pratt & Whitney, The Travelers, The Hartford, Hartford Hospital and United Technologies Corporation.
